Without getting into the intimate details of diagnosis and her history. I will tell you that my daughter has suffered multiple things in her short life, with severe anxiety being a large part of it all. She has been in therapy and has had support since she was 7. We had heard about horse therapy but had put our efforts into other things along the way. Then she got to be 11 and started to show a strong interest in horses. We were so blessed to be connected with the Recknagel/Czys family in June of 2018 (my daughter now was 12).
In the past year we, her family and her therapist, have seen a growth in her that is beautiful. We see her making connections with her emotions, with her ability to read others emotions, with her self confidence and self esteem. She has learned to connect with her own feelings because she can feel the horse reacting to her. She understands every horse has their own personality and the way she needs to approach and respond to them. This past school year was much less about just making it through and so much more about her focusing on what needed to be done, releasing the negative, understanding humans more and understanding her self worth.
She has found a safe place with the horses and with theRecknagel/Czys family. I wish I could show you my heart so you would understand the feelings I have; the appreciation, the love, the gratitude for what this year has done for our daughter. I believe in the power of animal therapy, I believe when it comes to the horses due to their powerfulness that the connection with them holds something special and the people who have been gifted the ability to help someone who is hurting make that connection with these beautiful creatures are in their own beautiful and hold power.
