Most of our horses were at one time neglected.  The severity varied, but most often their basic needs were not being met. Several of our program horses were once high-valued horses whose owners fell on hard times and could no longer provide care.  Some of the horses needed expensive surgeries to fix health issues. 

Our program was founded on reconditioning horses and pairing the horses with people who might need a little bit of restoration and help themselves. The horses offer emotional and mental support for the lesson students and lessees as we assist them in growing as equestrians.

No matter what draws people to horses, the experience is deeply meaningful. Through their interactions with these majestic creatures, many of our students, who also receive traditional mental health therapies, have experienced significant benefits. Our role is to guide students in building connections with their horses, helping them navigate stress, and enjoying a range of fun activities together.

The lesson student or lessee almost always FEELS better after they spend time with their horse, regardless of what they work on. Sometimes they don’t work on anything.  They simply are present with their horse. Many of our students state that they especially love being able to go on trail rides with their horses.  Being able to enjoy nature adds another level of relaxation and facilitates the release of tension and negative energy.

Without our program, many of our clients would not have access to horses in the ways we offer. Most programs are very regimented, and there is not a lot of time allocated to bonding. We encourage our students and lessees to not only enjoy riding but to also take time to just be with the horses: groom them, bathe them, braid their hair, hand graze them, and have the horses do their yoga stretches.  Horses are excellent listeners too!
