I started volunteering at Eden Healing Center a few months ago, and the place has quickly become a source of comfort and joy in my life.
Working with the horses brings a special kind of fulfillment: getting to know them and their quirks, understanding the ways they relate to one another, forming a bond with a handful of them are things of which I’m unexpectedly but also unabashedly proud.
I could go on and on about the emotional and physical benefits of working with horses, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the humans in the program. Everyone I’ve met has been friendly, welcoming, open to showing this newbie the ropes. Seeing Jessica work with the horses and with the students is inspiring. And every time I see a confident smile appear on child’s face once they’ve managed to successfully communicate with their equine partner, I can’t but help be happy myself.
