Testimonials – Emma & Oliva

Due to my daughter witnessing domestic violence she has a diagnosis of C-PTSD and Depression. While attending school for my MSW which is all clinical I was learning about all the different types of therapies and the one that made the most sense for Emma was Equine therapy.

I saw an advertisement one day for riding lessons and contacted Jessica Recknagel to set up a lesson. I have a small history with horses and knew Emma would learn how to become a confident and strong individual while working with the horses. I have seen amazing changes in Emma, she has found her voice which helps her stand up for herself and to have positive thoughts more than the negative, meaning she likes herself and is not as hard on herself. Although Emma was only participating in riding lessons she was getting so much more from Jessica Recknagel. Jessica has a way with the children that gets them to open up and share their feelings. That in itself can make the biggest difference. With Emma all she has to do now is get on a horse and she is non-stop talking.

Emma has now also gained a new family that she adores and who’s words mean a lot to her. She has a larger support system that will do what they can for her. I am very interested in helping to support Eden Healing Center get started, whether that consists of me volunteering my time to do therapy or providing donations. Equine therapy can
help a large array of people from teens with behavioral issues to those with a mental illness.

I did Emma’s testimonial so I guess it’s my turn. I went from my childhood home that was abusive to my husband’s. So I would say I spent most of my life being mistreated and have experienced every form of abuse. Watching Emma learn and interact with the horses and Jessica Recknagel opened my eyes and my heart to the possibility of getting to know who I am. Not as a mother, daughter, sister, or wife. I can honestly say that being a part of this horse world has made me the happiest I have been in so long. When I’m having a hard day I go see Raven and talk to her and go for a ride. There have been times where I needed a good cry and Jessica would listen and console me. I pray that this group of horse family will have the opportunity to stay together or come back together sooner rather then later.
